Shadows at Dawn

Verse 1
There’s a stillness before the storm,
Boots in sand, breath held warm.
No flags, no speeches, just the hum of dread,
The kind that whispers names of the dead.

The sky blushes gray, not yet awake,
And we move like ghosts for silence’s sake.
Trigger fingers kiss the line,
Eyes scanning shadows for a hidden sign.

Chorus
Shadows at dawn, no heroes here,
Just hearts pounding louder than the fear.
We fight for each other, nothing more,
In the hush before hell opens its door.

Verse 2
Radio static, eyes like steel,
No time to process what we feel.
Just callsigns, coordinates, grit in the teeth,
And hope that what’s waiting ain’t underneath.

We’re trained to respond, not to ask why,
But every soul carries a private cry.
You see the flash, you count the cost,
Measure your breath by the friends you’ve lost.

Chorus
Shadows at dawn, no medals earned,
Only lives altered, lessons learned.
We don’t chase glory, we don’t chase fame,
Just make it out breathing and remember their name.

Bridge
There’s a moment after, when silence returns,
Where the smoke hangs heavy, and the daylight burns.
You sit in your armor, hollowed and cold,
Realizing this life carves deeper than told.

Verse 3
Later, in chow halls or quiet bunks,
We’ll laugh too loud and drink like punks.
But nothing numbs what we left behind,
The blood in the dirt, the weight in the mind.

Chorus
Shadows at dawn, it never fades,
Etched in the soul like combat grades.
You walk away, but you’re never the same,
Wearing the silence, bearing the name.

Outro
So here’s to the ones who never came home,
To the shadows that walk when we’re alone.
In that gray-lit hour, we still stand drawn
Bound by the oath, in the shadows at dawn.
